Weight Loss

What is a healthy weight?

For most people, a healthy weight is determined by their body mass index, or BMI. Maintaining a healthy weight may decrease a person’s risk for diseases such as hypertension or diabetes, while higher amounts of body fat may increase risk for these diseases.

Curious about your BMI? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers a free online BMI calculator to determine your current BMI.

Interpreting your results is simple:

  • Underweight = BMI of less than 18.
  • Healthy Weight = BMI between 18.5 and 24.9
  • Overweight = BMI between 25.0 to 29.9
  • Obese = BMI of 30.0 or higher

Not happy with your results?

The importance of eating a balanced, healthy diet and incorporating exercise into your weekly routine cannot be underestimated.  With this in mind, Serenity MedAesthetics is excited to announce that we have partnered with Fixin’ 2 be Fit and Revive Performance Training to offer a comprehensive weight loss program.

Let’s talk about weight loss medications.

Unfortunately, for many people weight loss requires more than just lifestyle changes.  Weight loss medications can be a great way to jump start your journey to a healthier life.

At Serenity, we offer multiple options including injectables, semaglutide and tirzepatide, as well as oral medications, Contrave and Qsymia.  Semaglutide and Tirzepatide mimic the naturally occurring hormone called GLP-1 which causes increased insulin production as well as sending a signal of fullness to the brain.  Tirzepatide also mimics the naturally occurring GIP hormone, which like GLP-1, causes increased insulin production and sends signals of fullness to the brain.  This means that in some people weight loss may be greater with tirzepatide as opposed to semaglutide.

Of course, not everyone wants to give or receive an injection once a week to achieve their weight loss goals.  This is where oral medications make their debut.  Contrave is a non-stimulant weight loss medication consisting of two ingredients: naltrexone and bupropion, which work together to decrease feelings of pleasure produced by eating ultimately controlling cravings while also decreasing your appetite.  Qsymia is stimulant weight loss medication consisting of two ingredients: phentermine and topiramate.  Phentermine increases neurotransmitters in the brain that cause a decrease in appetite while topiramate works on different neurotransmitters to decrease appetite and increase feelings of fullness.
